The Ultimate Super Smash Bros Character Guide King Dedede

first_img ‘Astral Chain’ and Other Dumb Nintendo SongsThe Ultimate Super Smash Bros. Character Guide: Hero King Dedede Sucks Up!Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is huge. Not just in terms of hype and importance and sales potential, but just in terms of sheer stuff. The Nintendo Switch mascot fighter features over a hundred stages, nearly a thousand songs, and too many Pokemon and items and Assist Trophies to think of crammed onto a cartridge you can plan on the go or on a TV. When you have as many big franchises as Nintendo, putting them all in one game will make that game is very big boy indeed. But the biggest, most exciting thing about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is its mind-blowing, heartwarming roster of playable characters. Fighting games pride themselves not just on the strength of their mechanics but the strength of its fighters, especially in a crossover fighters like this. And Super Smash Bros. Ultimate crushes all rivals by including every single playable character from the across the four previous games in the twenty-year-old series. Include the new combatants and so far we have over 70 fighters to wrap our heads around. We’re excited, but we’re also intimidated. So to get ready for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, every day, character by character, we’re creating the ultimate guide to all of its characters. Today’s fighter: King Dedede.AdChoices广告 Who Are They? The Kirby series has a weird relationship with villains. Meta Knight is the cool antihero rival. The true ultimate evil always ends up being some formless cosmic malevolence. But for all intents and purposes Kirby’s archenemy is King Dedede, this gentle looking penguin wearing a parka and carrying a big gosh-darn mallet. Sure, why not?Smash HistoryKing Dedede was planned as playable character all the way back in Smash 64. But he finally made the leap from background element to main event in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. He even ended up playing a delightful role in the Subspace Emissary story mode, giving characters helpful little brooches that brought them back to life when the world ended. Although elaborate story modes didn’t return in later Smash games, Dedede did. What Looks New in Ultimate?King Dedede was a really great character in Brawl, especially on the East Coast from some reason which is just fantastic. But a lot of that was due to his near-inescapable chaingrabbing, a mechanic removed in later games. He was bad in Smash Wii U/3DS but Ultimate brings back some of that Brawl spirit, buffing Dedede in basically every way. One particularly nasty play is to toss a spiky Gordo minion, inhale it back in, and spit it out as an even faster projectile. Our Hopes? As a Kirby character, King Dedede is of course a child of Smash creator Masahiro Sakurai. However, in Smash Sakurai went so far as to voice the character’s menacing yet jovial penguin chuckles. As heartwarming as that is though, we’d love an option to include Dedede’s American voice from the Kirby: Right Back At Ya! anime where this gluttonous dimwitted villainous political leader sounded like George W. Bush for some reason.Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is available now. Read our review of this majestic video game pageant.
