Nintendo announced Pokemon X and Pokemon Y back in early January. The new games are noteworthy not just for being yet another entry in the very popular Pokemon series, but also for being the first to target Nintendo’s 3DS exclusively. While Nintendo DS owners will be disappointed, it is a great excuse to finally upgrade to the 3DS. Targeting the newer handheld also means Pokemon can embrace 3D as well as developer Game Freak promising the environments have been completely redone to take advantage of the performance offered by the 3DS hardware. There’s also a new dynamic battle system to look forward to.It has already been confirmed that Nintendo intends to release Pokemon X and Pokemon Y worldwide rather than a per-territory stunted launch. Today, the E3 Nintendo Direct presentation has been used to confirm the actual date. You’ll be able to buy both games on October 12.To help celebrate the launch date announcement Nintendo has released a new trailer for the games:As you’ll see in the trailer, a new Fairy type Pokemon is being included that’s super effective against Dragon-type Pokemon. There’s also a new mode called Pokemon-Amie, which allows you to pet, play, and feed your Pokemon (I imagine this is kind of like a mini-version of Nintendogs, but with Pokemon, obviously).Early October is an intelligent time to launch as it means Nintendo can market the game without being crowded out by the launch build up of the Xbox One and PS4, which will happen as we enter November. It is also just close enough to keep Pokemon X and Pokemon Y in the charts for the holidays and the sales boost that will surely bring.
