College football fans from the early 1990s, and specifically Florida State fans, are likely familiar with Wayne Messam, though.Messam played at FSU from 1993-1996, winning a national title with the Seminoles as a freshman. During his career, he caught 62 passes for 793 yards and four touchdowns.Messam parlayed his FSU football career into a brief stint in the NFL. As an undrafted free agent, he spent time on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad in 1997.In the years following the end of his football career, Messam started a successful construction company, and the entered politics, winning a spot on the Miramar City Commission in 2011, before unseating a 16-year incumbent as mayor of the town in 2015. I know this, he has a lot of work ahead of him.”Before that can become a reality, he’ll have to score a huge upset over a field of nearly 20 other Democrats vying for the nomination.
