Women’s Basketball Opens 2017-18 Season Friday At Home

Tipoff of the preseason WNIT contest is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on The Valley on ESPN3. The Valley on ESPN3 Live Stats Drake and Milwaukee last played each other in 2013, a game that took place in the Knapp Center and was won by the Bulldogs by a score of 79-57. Drake is 6-0 all-time in the series. The Panthers were picked to finish fourth in the preseason Horizon League poll. Senior Steph Kostowicz is a preseason All-Horizon League pick. She led the team in scoring (15.3), rebounds (8.2), field goal percentage (52.6) and blocks (42) as a junior in 2016-17. Drake, the preseason favorite in the Missouri Valley Conference for the second-straight season, won both of its exhibition contests at the Knapp Center. The Bulldogs cruised past Grand View, 115-43 and Truman State, 90-50. Maddy Dean (Jordan, Minn.) and Sara Rhine (Eldon, Mo.), who each missed all or nearly all of the 2016-17 season, averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds and 19.5 points and 5.5 rebounds, respectively. Drake recorded an impressive 55 assists on 80 field goals in the two wins. Buy Tickets Following Friday’s season opener, Drake will continue play in the WNIT. If the Bulldogs defeat Milwaukee they will play the winner of CSU Northridge and No. 11 Oregon.
