Inishowen National School shows off its new facilities!

first_imgMinister Joe McHugh visited St. Aengus’ National School in Bridgend to officially open the new Junior infant classroom, learning support, office and new entrance. Over 215 children from the school formed a guard of honour to welcome the Education Minister. Mr McHugh was treated to poetry and songs from the children and presented with a painting of a tree made with the children’s fingerprints. The Principal, Mr Séamus McGowan thanked the Minister for granting the funds for such a top class and state of the art classroom but also challenged the Minister to provide a similar classroom for the other children in the school. Mr McGowan remarked, “The children of St. Aengus N.S. Bridgend deserve the best!”The school also received their first Active flag and the Minister with Mickey McCann, parent and County hurling manager, raised the flag to great cheers and celebrations. The school has almost completed a new flat, drained juvenile pitch and a 350m running track around the perimeter of the field. The children run, jog or walk a mile each day before school. The school’s active motto, which was written by Edel in the second class reads, “Healthy children we aim to be, being active is the key!”The school is currently having an “Arts and Active week”, with local artists, coaches and musicians contributing to this fun/active week. The minister thanked the school for their invitation and commended the parents, school staff and children, for their hard work. More information on the school and active week can be seen on the school’s website, www.staengusbridgend.com.Inishowen National School shows off its new facilities! was last modified: June 12th, 2019 by Caitlin LairdShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window) Tags:bridgendInishowenSCHOOLSt Aengus’ NSlast_img read more

More Science Behind Gender Differences

first_imgMale-female differences are a matter of science fact, not political ideology.Perhaps no political movement has become more anti-science (other than the neo-flat-earth) than the idea of “gender fluidity,” the notion that people can choose whether to act male or female. Their bodies, genes and brains say otherwise.Researchers discover clues to brain differences between males and females (Medical Xpress). The University of Maryland School of Medicine knows what everybody else knows: men and women think differently. This has a biological basis:A key contributor to the differences in play behavior between males and females is a sex-based difference in the number of newborn cells in the part of the brain called the amygdala, which controls emotions and social behaviors. The research showed that males have fewer of these newborn cells, because they are actively eliminated by immune cells.Male Y chromosomes not ‘genetic wastelands’ (Science Daily). The Y chromosome undergoes a unique kind of recombination, found researchers at the University of Rochester, called “gene conversion.” The process maintains the chromosome’s integrity for traits passed on from father to son: “these genes manage to get expressed and carry out their functions that are important for male fertility.”How men continually produce sperm—and how that discovery could help treat infertility (Phys.org). An obvious difference between men and women concerns the gametes they produce, let alone the body parts and mechanisms that bring them together. Women produce a limited cache of eggs in development, but men produce uncountable trillions of sperm throughout life. Researchers at UC San Diego learned some things about this lesser-studied type of cell development, and shared some surprising facts:The production of sperm—otherwise known as spermatogenesis—generates more than 1,000 sperm per second in normal males. This productivity comes, in part, from a special cell type called the spermatogonial stem cell. The staying power of this stem cell has allowed many celebrities, including Robert DeNiro and Pablo Picasso, to father children after the age of 65.Even baby boys have spermatogonial stem cells that are not active till puberty, but the researchers believe they have a function in male development even before then.Credit: Duluth Trading Co.Masculine fitness program improves physical activity of European men (Medical Xpress). This article could sound very politically incorrect, given that “toxic masculinity” has become a catch-phrase of the leftists. Of all places, Europe is discovering that men really do benefit from programs tailored to their ‘gender’ –Gender-sensitized lifestyle-change programs in a professional sport setting are an exciting development in men’s health promotion, with the potential to engage men who are underserved by most programs. One such program, Football Fans in Training (FFIT), has been shown to be effective and cost-effective in delivering long-term weight loss in overweight and obese Scottish football fans. Drawing on the success of FFIT, Wyke and colleagues developed the European Fans in Training (EuroFIT) program to attempt to improve physical activity and sedentary time in male football fans. EuroFIT is a 12-week group-based program delivered by coaches at football clubs in weekly 90-minute sessions. Whereas FFIT introduced physical activity and dietary change for weight loss, EuroFIT focused on increasing physical activity and reducing sedentary time as desirable outcomes in their own right.Wrong Way: Danger AheadIn World Magazine‘s January 30th issue, Jamie Dean describes some of the harm done to teenagers nudged by LGBT activists into pretending to be what they are not. So-called “rapid onset gender dysphoria” has nothing to do with sex chromosomes, but instead with propaganda and pressure to conform.“Sex is biologically determined from at the moment of conception” says Hruz. “It’s recognized at the time of birth, it’s not assigned at the time of birth. And even if you modify the appearance of the body, you don’t do anything to change the sex.”Some young people undergo periods of questioning their gender identity, but almost all grow out of it. Victims of the new rapid-onset dysphoria craze are led to believe that any discomfort with their sex role ‘means’ that they must be transgender. With encouragement from media and LGBT pressure groups praising the ‘courage’ of those who ‘come out’ as transgender, some children and teens try living as the opposite sex, often with lasting physical harm and regret.Jamie Dean also writes that sex and gender are issues of creation. Parents need to teach children at an early age that they are created in God’s image as male and female. The science is undeniable; those falling for ‘rapid-onset gender dysphoria’ are in denial. What’s happening in culture these days is a perfect example Walter Scott’s warning, “Oh, what a tangled web we weave…when first we practice to deceive.” The worst kind of deception is deceiving yourself. For those struggling with confused feelings about their gender, come to Christ! Learn the beauty of God’s creation, how a holy, loving. all-wise Creator made a perfect world with two beings equal in His image: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them” (Gen 1:27-28). He intended your sexual identity to be a blessing to you and to others. The two sexes are equal in value, but differ in roles, complementing each other physically, emotionally and spiritually. It was a beautiful thing before Satan corrupted it. It can still be beautiful under God’s common grace, but can potentially reach the highest good for the redeemed. If you are sexually confused, or feel yourself wanting to be what you are not, here’s the secret: Learn to love the beauty of God’s design. Being a woman is beautiful (for those with XX chromosomes). Being a man is awesome (for those with XY). When your gender identity matches your biological reality, you have harmony within yourself and with others. Learn about and appreciate the traits with which God endowed you, to bless you. There’s a lot of room for variation within God’s designed gender roles; some men are macho weightlifters while other men write the most delicate of sounds for violin or sensitive poetry. Some women do great in the military (like fighter pilot Martha McSally) and as national leaders (the “Iron Lady” Margaret Thatcher), while others are as delicate as the Princess and the Pea. That’s OK. You can find your sweet spot as either man or woman. But denying what you are and trying to be the opposite of what God designed leads to disharmony, confusion and evil that will affect not only you, but your family and others around you. God made you what you are. Embrace it; enjoy it; glorify God with it. Then turn with admiration, respect and affection to the other sex, finding in the one God planned for you the completion of your identity.Recommended resource: Love Thy Body by Nancy Pearcey.. Woolworths set to acquire Australia’s David Jones

first_img10 April 2014South African retailer Woolworths is set to buy Australian department store chain David Jones for R21.4-billion (A$2.1-billion), in a deal that will create a leading southern hemisphere retailer with 1 151 stores across 16 countries. The deal will make Woolworth one the 10 biggest department store operators in the world, and one of the largest companies listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.“We have great respect for David Jones – it is a truly iconic Australian retail business,” Woolworths CEO Ian Moir said in a statement on Wednesday. “Woolworths is a proudly South African company with an enviable history and track record. Our businesses are closely aligned in terms of our target markets, and we look forward to growing a southern hemisphere champion from our South African base.”Woolworths has operated successfully in Australia for over 15 years already through its subsidiary, Country Road Group, which operates the Country Road, Trenery, Witchery and Mimco brands.David Jones is an iconic Australian brand at the premium end of the clothing business, occupying a similar customer positioning in Australia to Woolworths in South Africa. “DJs”, as many know it, also stocks gourmet food and wine and high-end beauty products. One of Australia’s oldest department stores, it has 38 branches across the country and flagship stores in Sydney and Melbourne.According to Woolworths, the combination of the two will provide “significant advantages that will benefit both companies and their customers. The group will have increased scale that will drive significant efficiencies and economies through enhanced global sourcing and be able to benefit from the shared seasons and trends.”Working with David Jones’ management team, Woolworths plans to speed up the Australian company’s strategic initiatives to improve its position and performance. The company said it had identified a number of initiatives “which it believes will deliver at least R1.4-billion (A$130-million) per annum in earnings before interest and tax per annum within five years”.As part of this turnaround strategy, Woolworths said it was committed to developing its South African supply chain and boosting exports from the southern African region.“All the products that we have from South Africa and the SADC [Southern African Development Community] countries, which is about 40% of our total offer, will flow into David Jones,” Moir told Business Day on Wednesday. The transaction is subject to a number of conditions, including approvals by both sets of shareholdersAccording to Woolworth, the David Jones board of directors “has unanimously resolved to recommend its shareholders vote in favour of the transaction, in the absence of a superior proposal and subject to an independent expert concluding that the transaction is fair and reasonable and in the best interests of David Jones shareholders”.SAinfo reporterlast_img read more

Mozilla Passwords Leaked, No Reason to Panic

first_imgAccording to a post on the Mozilla security blog, a security researcher reported the issue via Mozilla’s Web bounty program, a program that encourages external, non-employee security professionals to find and submit bugs to Mozilla. In return, Mozilla pays cash ($500 to $3,000 for valid bugs) for the submissions. Although Mozilla isn’t saying, this is probably one of those $3,000 rewards. This news comes on the heels of another high-profile password breach – the mid-December hacker attack on Gawker Media’s servers, which ended up exposing the usernames and passwords of 1.3 million user accounts, created for commenting purposes on popular weblogs like Gawker, Gizmodo, LifeHacker, Kotaku, io9, Jezebel and others. How Were the Passwords Protected?Like Gawker’s passwords, which were poorly encrypted using DES encryption, an older, less secure technology, Mozilla’s passwords in this instance were protected with MD5 hashes, another older method of protection. These passwords can be cracked, explains Chester Wisniewski on the Sophos security blog. “MD5 has cryptographic weaknesses that permit creation of the same hash from multiple strings,” he says. “This permits security experts to compute all the possible hashes and determine either your password or another string that will work even if it is not your password.”Mozilla hasn’t used MD5 since April 9, 2009 – it now uses SHA-512, a significantly stronger encryption method. The database in question, however, housed older, inactive accounts using the MD5-hashed passwords. What’s Being DoneTo address the issue, Mozilla says it erased all the MD5 passwords, effectively disabling the accounts.Chris Lyon, Director of Infrastructure Security for Mozilla says “the issue posed minimal risk to users,” because the only person, according to Mozilla’s logs, who accessed the database was the security researcher who reported the problem. Lyon also reassured users that the incident did not impact any of Mozilla’s infrastructure. While the risk may be minimal,? Wisniewski suggests that anyone contacted by Mozilla as having been one of the unfortunate users whose account information was exposed should make sure they are not using that same password at other websites, just in case. If so, change those passwords immediately. “If [Mozilla is] wrong or if the discloser is not trustworthy, your other accounts may be at risk,” he says. sarah perez Tags:#news#NYT#security#web 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Related Posts A database containing 44,000 usernames and password hashes associated with accounts registered on the Mozilla add-ons website was accidentally made public, the organization and makers of the Firefox Web browser said on Monday.
