Students from Peace Region bring home medals from Canada Wide Science Fair

JOHN, B.C. – Five students and two delegates travelled from the Peace Region to attend the Canada Wide Science Fair in Fredericton, New Brunswick.After successfully competing and winning their spots at the Regional Science Fair held in April, the group was amongst 409 other projects that were submitted to the Canada Wide Science Fair.Out of those 409 projects, three students from the North Peace were able to win medals for their science projects.- Advertisement -Hollis Mattson, Grade 7 student at Devereaux Elementary, won a silver medal for her Underwater Soundscape project.Kyra Taylor, Grade 12 Student at North Peace Secondary School, received a bronze medal for her project ‘Keeping the Balance: The Correlation Between Diet and pH in the Equine Hindgut’.Emilia Dyksterhuis, Grade 7 Student, won a bronze medal for her project on ‘Spare Our Air: The Use of Algae Scrubbers in the Oil and Gas Industry’.Advertisement Students received an all-expense trip thanks to the sponsorship of Shell, Encana, School District 60 Science Fair Foundation B.C., and Arc Resources.last_img read more

DANIEL GOES BACK TO HIS ROOTS WITH HIS OWN TV SHOW

first_imgDaniel O’Donnell may be working on his dancing steps but he is once again back as Master of Ceremonies for the biggest country music show on TV, Opry an Iúir.Daniel on stageFilmed in front of a live audience Daniel hosts a country music star each week who will play their greatest hits. Opry an Iúir will air on Wednesday evenings at 10.30pm on TG4 from October 7th.For the first time ever Daniel will also perform some of his best known hits in Irish! Don’t miss his versions of Tar ag Damhsa Liom (I just want to dance with you) and Bhfuil aon Sólás í nDán dom Níos Mó (My shoes keep walking back to you). Even while he was on holidays in Tenerife he was listening and practicing his songs in Irish. Daniel was itching to get back on the Opry stage, and make this, his best series yet!Speaking about the series, Daniel says “I really enjoyed presenting Opry an Iúir again this year. The guests were all fantastic. I got to sing a few songs in Irish. A first for me! It’s so good to have a show like this to showcase some of our great country stars.”This season features country stars Dominic Kirwan, Charlie Landsborough, Mike Denver, Louise Morrissey, Jim Devine and Johnny Brady. In these unique performances Daniel will join each artist on stage for a chat and a special duet performance.Each country star then also appears with an Irish traditional artist to perform a duet in Irish. BBC Northern Ireland’s Lynette Fay brings us backstage to profile the stars in specially filmed pieces at their homes, studios and places with meaning for them. Lynette will also meet fans on the night of the performances, with a profile of each stars biggest fan.Opry an Iúir brings the essence of Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry to Newry’s Town Hall, a very unique venue dating from the 1800’s.
